Now You're Speaking My Language: Medical Terminology, the Human Body and Beyond!

Students will embark on a fascinating journey through the building blocks of medical and healthcare terminology, terminology for major body systems (like the heart-pounding cardiovascular system and the breath-taking respiratory system), common prefixes, suffixes, and root words, medical abbreviations and symbols, and real-world applications of medical terms. For each body system we will review basic anatomy and physiology, common disorders, specialists, diagnostic procedures and more! By the end of the course students will have taken a deep dive into 8 body systems, learning over 320 prefixes, suffixes, roots, and abbreviations, 64 diseases, 44 treatments, procedures, and diagnostic tests, and 34 different providers and specialists.

The course is designed to keep you engaged and excited, all while you learn the language of medicine. We’ll kick off each presentation with an overview of the system, including high-level anatomy and physiology. Then, we’ll explore the medical terminology related to that area, delve into common diseases, disorders, and procedures, and introduce you to the specialists who care for these systems. We’ll also cover healthy habits to maintain overall health related to each system.

But that’s not all—this course is packed with interactive activities that make learning fun and dynamic!
