Class Experience

Are you a young writer looking to tackle the daunting task of writing a novel? You are not alone! Whether you're just in the beginning stages or are already looking to publish- this club is for you! I have been writing since I was barely able to grip a pen. My short story and play I wrote when I was four got rave reviews from my mom and dad! I tried to write my first novel around age seven and didn't finish one until I was sixteen. That is to say- no matter where you are on your writing journey, I have been there. Finding other like-minded young writers is one of the best ways to make sure you start your next great novel and stick to it. Each week, young writers will share their progress, set weekly writing goals, and get tips and tricks on everything from the brainstorming process all the way to finding a publisher. This club is available both for teen authors and preteen authors as a way to expand your writing skills, make new friends, and get your novels out into the world!

Since this a learner-directed club, each week varies in terms of which topic we will be tackling, but here are some examples of topics we will be covering:

1. Week of 11/27- Brainstorming: Workshopping ideas for your next great novel.
2. Week of 12/4- Setting Goals: Deciding on daily, weekly, and monthly writing goals and how to stick to them.
3. Week of 12/11-Planning Your Novel: Breaking your novel idea out into scenes and story beats and figuring out what needs to happen for your story to unfold.
4. Week of 12/18: Playing With Tropes: Examining which common story tropes and cliches we hate, which ones we love, and how we can utilize, subvert, or avoid them.
Learning Goals
This club will teach skills like outlining stories, creating workable weekly goals, collaborating with other writers, revising drafts, reaching out to publishers and agents, and much more!
