Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Does learning about part of speech have to mean sitting a looking a flash cards for hours? I don't think so either. In this class learner will learn what nouns, verbs, and adjectives are and how to identify them in a short sentence. Your child will be introduced to numerous words and will have to decide if it is either a noun, verb, or adjective. We will be doing this in fun and active ways! Learners will be having so much fun that they will forget that they are learning.

Lesson 1: What is a noun? Students will learn what kinds of words are nouns. We will sort picture of words into categories of people, places, things and animals. Students will learn the difference between a common noun and a proper noun. Learners will play a game called "Find Teachers Mistake" where they have to find words that don't belong in each category. This will all take place in the class room video. When they are done watching and learning from the interactive classroom video they will have a chance to find nouns themselves. Each learner will be given a worksheet full of letter to use to find as many nouns hidden as they can. Students can post their result to compete to see who finds the most nouns.

Lesson 2: What is a verb? Students will learn what kinds of words are verbs. We will play games of "Simon Says" and "Which word doesn't belong". This will all take place in the class room video. When they are done watching and learning from the interactive classroom video they will have a chance to find verbs themselves and compete with other learners. Each learner will be given a worksheet full of letter to use to find as many verbs hidden as they can. Students can post their result to compete to see who finds the most verbs.

Lesson 3: What is an adjective? Students will learn what kinds of words are adjectives. Students will learn how to link an adjective to a noun. We will play the game "Go get something". For example: students will be told to go find and bring back something shiny, blue or small before the timer runs out. This will all take place in the class room video. When they are done watching and learning from the interactive classroom video they will have a chance to find adjectives themselves and compete with other learners. Each learner will be given a worksheet full of letter to use to find as many adjectives hidden as they can. Students can post their result to compete to see who finds the most adjectives.

Lesson 4: What kind of word is this? We will quickly review what are nouns, verbs and adjectives. Students will be shown short stories and they will have to figure out if a word in the story is a noun, verb or adjective. These will be silly stories to make learning so much fun. This will all take place in the class room video. When they are done watching and learning from the interactive classroom video they will have a chance to find nouns, verbs and adjectives themselves and compete with other learners. Each learner will be given a worksheet full of letter to use to find as many nouns verbs and adjectives hides as they can. Students can post their result to compete to see who finds the most words.

Being able to read small words (cat, house, hill, run, etc) will be helpful to succeed in this class I hope your learner can join us for this fun word party.
