After the students learn what a noun is, and we are substituting nouns, I will be able to assess them for understanding by the words they choose to substitute for the song's nouns.Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 2
This is a one-time class that uses a familiar nursery rhyme to teach about nouns. We will first learn what a noun is and then search for the nouns in the song. Then, we’ll replace those nouns with other ones for a fun “Mad-Lib style” of noun substitution, and then sing it with the new nouns we pick, instead. We will sing; learn, and laugh together as we learn. Along the way, students will also have a little practice with syllables, too, as we clap to the beats of the nouns they choose, to make sure we can fit them into the rhythm. They’ll also learn what “fleece” means. This lesson is recommended for ages 5-8.
Learning Goals
Students will be learning what a noun is, by using the song "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and then choosing their own nouns to substitute into the song. They will also get some indirect practice with syllables, as we clap while substituting nouns, to make them fit the rhythm of the song. They will also learn what "fleece" means.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Washington Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I'm a certified K-8th teacher with decades of experience teaching children, most often in K-3rd grades. I have subbed all grades, though, from Preschool-12th grade, and have regularly taught ages 3-18, online, for over four years now, in multiple subjects. I was also a director of a daycare center before going back to school to do a Master's in Teaching Program (Summa Cum Laude). I have a bachelor's degree in Business Administration: Accounting, and I even went to law school! Teaching is my passion, though!
