Note taking is not easy! In this engaging one-time class, students will learn essential skills for taking effective notes, organizing them for better comprehension, and reviewing them for tests or papers. Ms. Crocker will provide practical tips and strategies to make note-taking more efficient and productive. Through interactive activities and discussions, students will practice and refine their note-taking techniques, ensuring they are well-prepared for academic challenges.

First, We will learn about Cornell notes, or two column notes, and how they can improve both listening comprehension and long term memory from lectures. 

Then we will explore the use of mind mapping to support students who find writing impacts their ability to listen and learn. We will experiment with both strategies and identify which strategy works best for each learner. 

We will discuss how to organize notes so that you can access them when you need them. We will also talk about how to can return to your notes at assessment time to ensure you have the most information you possibly can!

This class is designed to support all learners in the classroom. We will explore various note-taking methods that can help with attention, trouble writing, and executive dysfunction.
Parental Guidance
I use a Crash Course history video of the Scientific Method to practice note taking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdQreBq6MO I will offer students a chance to share their preferred names and pronouns at the start of class during our introductions.

A notebook or piece of paper to use for note taking practice
