I am a teacher with a master degree in varying exceptionalities certified in reading. This class series is entitled, Nonfiction Matters, because nonfiction is of growing importance as kids get older. Get the Facts: During students' 4th-grade year, 50% of their reading should be from expository text. By the end of high school, 70% of a student's required reading will be nonfiction. Students will improve their reading comprehension by applying pre-reading and reading strategies, like using text structure and features.
I am a RESOL (Reading and English Speaking of other Language) teacher. ESOL strategies are the same reading strategies used in teaching English to native speakers.
Students will be asked to read a non-fiction article and identify what text structure and features are used.
1 file available upon enrollmentCornell Notes or lined paper to be structured as a Cornell Note, pen, pencil, colored pencils, and a notebook for personal journal writing.
Informal assessment during class participation will help students progress assessment.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
