In this on-going course, learners will play low-pressure movement and language games. We share and connect with others while developing skills and knowledge based on YOUR interests. Pop in as you're available for up to 5 classes per week.
Class Experience
For these 4 weeks, we will learn about topics that interest the group as they relate to the 50 United States. 1) We will begin class with an interactive memory game in which we learn things about each other's interests and experiences. 2) Next, I will introduce something fun about our theme. We may explore art, agriculture, animals, landmarks, populations, businesses, history, famous individuals, music, or more from the various states. 3) Then, we will play a word association or language...
This class is taught in English.
1) Each student will feel valued as a part of the community, even if they only participate in that week's meetings. 2) Each student will learn something new and useful in every meeting, whether it is vocabulary, spelling, movement, or a historic or scientific fact. 3) Each student will practice skills for interaction: speaking clearly, being heard, expressing themselves confidently, taking turns, acknowledging each other, and balancing focus and fun.
I have spent the last two years teaching elementary aged learners via the internet. I have worked creatively with very young children on musicals such as "Schoolhouse Rock, Live," "The King and I," "Oliver," and "Annie." I love customizing creative movement and language games to student abilities. I specialize in creating environments in which students feel safe to express themselves and enjoy each others' unique thoughts and perspectives.
I will modify and accommodate as needed, but students may enjoy having a few feet of space to safely move and dance. Ideally, they will be able to get a little distance from the camera so their body can be seen for movement games as much as they'd like. If a student is at all reluctant verbally and may prefer sometimes writing or drawing responses, that is welcome too. They can do that via a paper and crayons or tablet or other means that you suggest. This class will be very interactive, and hopefully will engage students thoroughly enough that you will not have to monitor every moment of the learner's experience (though you are always welcome to watch, of course).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
