Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
This course focuses on building advanced reading comprehension skills through non-fiction. Students will learn strategies for understanding complex texts, expanding vocabulary, identifying main ideas and supporting details, making inferences, and engaging in critical thinking. Each week, students will practice applying these skills through a new teacher-prepared non-fiction article.

These topics cover a wide range of interests, from science and technology to culture and the arts, keeping students engaged while learning essential comprehension skills.

Each module follows a weekly structure:

Read the Article: Students begin by reading a non-fiction article prepared by the teacher (20-25 minutes).
Watch the Video Lesson: A 25-30 minute video guides students through the article, highlighting vocabulary, context, and key questions.
Q&A Reflection Activity: After watching the video, students answer comprehension questions designed to deepen their understanding.
Feedback: The teacher provides personalized feedback within 24 hours to reinforce learning.

This class is self-paced, allowing students to work through each module at their own speed. Each week’s video lesson includes:

A warm welcome and overview of weekly objectives.
A read-aloud of the article, with pauses to emphasize vocabulary and context.
Discussions on main ideas, key vocabulary, and important details.
A summary of comprehension questions for students to reflect on.

My teaching style is engaging, supportive, and structured to build confidence in reading comprehension. I focus on breaking down challenging concepts, guiding students through each step, and using relatable examples. Each module is designed to encourage independent learning, while still providing personalized feedback and encouragement.

Since this is a self-paced class, students will interact with me primarily through:

Feedback on Submitted Questions: I respond within 24 hours to any questions or comprehension reflections they submit.
Check-Ins: I check in with each student when they start a new module to encourage their progress and offer support.
Video Instruction: Though not live, the video lessons provide a welcoming, guided experience to feel connected with me as they learn.

Learning Goals

Strengthen Advanced Comprehension Skills: Students will learn to analyze main ideas, identify supporting details, and summarize complex non-fiction texts independently.
Expand Vocabulary and Contextual Understanding: By encountering and studying advanced vocabulary in each article, students will improve their ability to infer word meanings from context and apply new vocabulary confidently.
