*If you are unsure this level is the right one for your student, please message me so I can send you a quick placement test.* Students will be provided with resources and instructional material for the second unit of a BourneBrightest French 1A course. There will be 8 weeks of lessons, various self-assessments, guided practice activities, and performance activities, and a unit test. The live lessons and performance assessments will place special emphasis on reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Live lessons will be offered once each week and will include immersion-style performance activities as well as explicit practice with English explanations as appropriate to the week's lessons and the learners' progress. Students should plan to spend 2-3 hours each week on work for this course to stay on pace.
Learning Goals
French 1A is part one of an introduction to French language and culture. This course section represents the first unit of that course and includes topics such as the alphabet, pronunciation, greetings, body language, school vocabulary, numbers, expressing age, dates, sentence structure, common verbs such as, "to be," and, "to have," and how to take a foreign language class online. The fundamentals of conversation, grammar, and culture are presented through a balanced development of the four skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

I have taught French at all levels from middle school to college since 1995. I have designed online language courses since 1999. I believe online learning is an effective way to learn a language, both as a teacher and a learner. While I have designed this course to be a paced course, it offers flexibility to work at a learner's pace within the weeks to accommodate students' learning preferences and schedules.
