Assessment of progress is indicated by an improvement over time of managing conflict and applying these skills in real life.Class Experience
In this 2-day class, students will meet to learn self-regulation and conflict management skills. For day 1, we will talk about understanding our brains and emotions and self-regulation. We will learn tools that help us down-regulate when we are getting upset or frustrated. Multiple modalities will be used: discussion, writing, reading, and more. Printable info-graphics included. Homework will be discovering which mindfulness techniques work for them. For day 2, we will learn the 4 sneaky snakes and a few trashy tricks that people use to get their way. Then we will figure out ways to handle it smoothly when these problems come up. We will learn to incorporate empathy into active listening--"listening with empathy"--and practice using different scenarios. Students can use a real life example of a conflict or a general one will be provided for them. Printable info-graphic included. For those who want to continue practicing this skill, take our intermediate ongoing course next.
Learning Goals
During the 2 day class, students will learn about 2 main topics: Self-regulation and conflict management. These are life skills that will help teens become "No Drama Llamas".

I am offering this class as a teen version of the adult class I am teaching for my business, SOUND Relationships. I believe that learning life skills is the number one way to improve relationships and build self-esteem. I'm a certified teacher and have training in the Gottman Method. I have personally taken the theories Gottman applies to couples and made my own curriculum that teaches children and parents valuable skills to strengthen their families. I have used these concepts in my own family and in my marriage of 26 years. They work!
