Public Speaking is considered by many as the number one fear in society today. In survey after survey Public Speaking has consistently beaten out bugs, and clowns, and even death. With good communication listed as a significant skill needed for class projects, college entrance, and finding a great place in the job market, what's a person to do? Never fear. This stuff is easy. For this first class, we are going to focus on comfortably presenting a short monologue or poem. We're going to focus on breathing, posture, eye-contact, and enunciation. We might even try a little acting. -- I love mashing like things together. If you have a student who'd like to use acting as a way to hone these Public Speaking classes, check out my Drop-in Drama and Monologues and More Classes. If you have a student who'd like to help write some of the scripts for my Drop-In Drama Classes or my Monologue classes, check out SHPA Scriptwriting. Hope to see you there!

Parental Guidance
Parents, you are always welcome to join your student in the class. For this class, it's probably better to stay off camera while we practice, but if the students agree, we'd love for you to join the last few minutes as we present what we've learned. Online learning has it's drawbacks for live audience, and there is nothing as great as a live audience to help us to overcome the nerves and really get comfortable speaking publicly.
Supply List
I will provide all the scripts that we will use in this class, so come as you are.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I had a speech teacher in college who taught me that it was okay to be bad at speaking before I was good at it. She taught me that the floor wouldn't open up and swallow me if I stuttered and that no one would laugh at me if I forgot something I was supposed to say. Her rule was that fear shouldn't stop me. Because of her wise words, I was brave enough to try for a job public speaking. I got that job and was a corporate trainer for 7 years. I have since spoken in public, trained trainers, taught classes.
Almost 4 years ago, I created a small youth theatre group that specializes in teaching our students that it's okay to speak up.
