Welcome to The Painting Panda Classroom: This is my Night time Learning to draw Basic pokemon class! This is a Subscription Class, meaning you can come and go as your schedule allows. But that you are also automatically enrolled each week until you stop your learner's subscription. This is a high demand class, and spots don't stay open long as I try my best to draw basic pokemon each child wants and requests, that fit into our schedule and monthly themes. Pokemon are such beautiful, fun, brightly colored imaginative creatures! With fire types, water types, electric types and more, you can find so many pokemon cards, characters, and facts about each animal type as you learn about how to draw them. Come join my subscription class for children learning to draw, have a basic skill set of drawing, or are new to art in general, as we learn to draw the pokemon we love. We can learn more about each character together as well, as I enjoy having students unmuted so we can hold a discussion or talk to each other as we're drawing. The learners are encouraged to discuss in class as much as they feel comfortable, so being a bit shy is also just fine! If your learner doesn't feel like sharing verbally, it would be very helpful if they would be willing to at least share their art work so I can help them if they have questions. Also, there is a chat option I can also respond to. For each class we will focus on 1 pokemon to draw together as a class. I'll be showing different BASIC techniques for drawing that pokemon (outline, coloring, light shading and basic cartoon styles, depending on the week). We will cover many types of pokemon, sticking to first and middle evolutions only, a handful of legendary that fit into our time limit, and that fit the drawing skills of each class. Since this is an ongoing class, a Pokemon journal would be perfect to keep all the drawings in. You can easily buy a 8x10 (or similar size) spiral bound drawing pad (blank paper). For the rest of the supplies please see the list posted below. Additionally, with this being an ongoing class, we will focus on different pokemon each month based off a theme I've already scheduled out for 12 months. That schedule of themes is below, with normal type pokemon scattered about within each theme. January: Ice Type Pokemon February: Fairy Type Pokemon March: Psychic / Poison Types Pokemon April: Electric Type Pokemon May: Grass/ Bug Types Pokemon June: Water Types Pokemon July: Dragon Types Pokemon August: Steel/ Rock/ Ground Types Pokemon September: Flying Types October: Dark/ Ghost Type November: Fire Types December: Fighting Types
Learning Goals
Learn how to draw basic shapes so we can turn them into characters
Learn how to add cartooning characteristics to characters
Learn how to do basic level shading
Learn how to color fill a character smoothly, and with visual texture
Learn how to find joy in your art even though it may not seem "perfect"
Learn how to be a great classmate/peer by sharing your positive/ polite comments on their art
Each week you will learn how to draw step-by-step each pokemon character listed. As I'm teaching basic drawing skills, it is important that learners are already comfortable with the knowledge of how to draw: shapes, and letters from the American English alphabet.

Parental Guidance
Parents are welcome to help students during class, but need to be off screen during the class duration, as a safety policy Outschool asks teachers to enforce.
Parents for the SAFETY of our students (your learners) please allow them to have access to a working web camera when taking this class. I need to visually see or hear that there is a student taking my class or the account without one will be kicked out of class, and sent to Outschool support. For more info on this, please see the parent FAQ posted on the Outschool website.
If this is your learner's first Outschool class I recommend getting familiar with the Zoom interface and platform before the class starts. Outschool has a few articles and videos that can help. Unfortunately I am really unable to deal with any technical issues once class has begun and if you are experiencing issues, it's best to contact technical support at Outschool directly via the HELP tab on the website.

Teacher expertise and credentials
When I started The Painting Panda, I wanted to offer a variety of art classes to many different ages of all children. My boys love LOVE love Pokémon, and we've been learning to draw them, play the games, watch the shows, and follow Ash and his friends as they become Pokémon trainers for a few years now. I'm so excited to offer a class where we can all learn to draw our favorite characters, and find out how to draw in different techniques as well. These Pokémon drawing classes are now my most popular classes, and due to demand I physically cannot keep up with the requests for more classes. This flex option I am hoping will help everyone I can't teach physically.
This has been one of my more popular classes I've offered to my local Homeschool group, local community during the summer, and even with my family private lessons. I love teaching drawing classes for kids, especially pokemon themed as my own kids love pokemon. My favorite part about teaching art classes is when I get to see the world through the eyes of the students by viewing their interpretations of the assignments I give them in class.
As mentioned in my teacher profile I have 10 years of experience teaching early education pre-K classes, in both North Carolina and Utah. I have been able to use my degrees in Visual Arts with a focus on Art History from NCSU and my Associate in Arts from Wake Tech Community College, to teach kids and adults: various art classes here in North Carolina for the past 7 years. With my scouting connections I have had 5 years experience teaching science and history classes in North Carolina and Florida. Whether it was as a Co-Op teacher for my local home school groups, Art merit Badge Counselor for the local Boy Scout clinic, teaching STEAM classes for Cub Scouts, Nail art and Jewelry Crafting to teenage girls in my church, or summer art classes through my business, The Painting Panda, I love being able to share what I have learned!
