Next Level Up: Piano Boot Camp! Red Level
Class experience
This fast-paced, 4-week course is the first level of a series of 5 levels in which learners will expand on their fundamental, beginner piano skills. I recommend having taken my "Absolute Beginners: Piano Boot Camp!" course before this course, or at minimum, having some basic experience with piano. Since this is a private class, learners will be provided an abundance of individualized attention and feedback! This "Next Level Up: Piano Boot Camp! Red Level' is the first level of a series of 5...
Please note: I recommend having taken my "Absolute Beginners: Piano Boot Camp!" course before this course, or at minimum, having some basic experience with piano. By the end of each class learners will have learned and practiced fundamental keyboard concepts and skills. The main focus of the Red Level is the coordination of playing both hands together comfortably and building confidence with key names and reading notes on the Grand Staff. While some material is naturally a review from the "Absolute Beginners: Piano Boot Camp!" course, in the Red Level practice pieces are a bit longer and present more level appropriate challenges. The intention behind my "Next Level Up" courses is to give learners the opportunity to see if they really like piano by giving them a quick and broad overview of the basics. Eventually, if they decide to continue we work with a major curriculum book series. Usually learners who complete my "Next Level Up" series can skip the primer books and move into Level 1 or even Level 2A of the major curriculum books. Learners should be set up at a keyboard so that I can see their hands and the keys and hear them well. Week 1: Review of notes of Middle C position on the piano and on the bass and treble clefs, quarter notes, half and dotted half notes, respective rests, and repeat signs. Learners will learn how to coordinate these skills and both hands while playing a 4-8 measure long practice piece in either 4/4 or 3/4 time. Week 2: Notes of C Position, dotted-half and whole notes and respective rests, skips and steps (harmonic and melodic) and ties. Learners will coordinate these skills and both hands while playing a 4-8 measure long practice piece in either 4/4 or 3/4 time. Week 3: Review of Middle C position and C position and other concepts previously learned with the addition of piano, forte and mezzo forte dynamic levels, crescendo and decrescendo. Learners will coordinate these skills and both hands while playing a 4-8 measure long practice piece in either 4/4 or 3/4 time. This practice piece may be a review from the previous week. Week 4: Introduction to the C major chord (melodic and harmonic). Learners will practice all skills reviewed and learned in this course while playing an 8-12 measure long practice piece in either 4/4 or 3/4 time. Please note that this is a fun, fast-paced course!
I have an MM and BM in music. I have taught learners of this age range music and ESL since 2002 online and in person.
1 file available upon enrollmentLearners should be set up at a piano, acoustic or electric, in such a way that I can hear them well and see their keyboard. The PDF worksheets I provide act as your piano book for the course. They can be printed and placed in a hard binder or clipboard and rested on the piano. I also provide the music on screen share incase learners do not have a printer. I will use fun, colorful PDF's to introduce each concept and skill. No additional piano repertoire book is needed. I will demonstrate each concept and technique.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:

It would be greatly appreciated if a parent/guardian could be available off-camera for at least the 1st few minutes of class to assist with technology, if needed. I aim to make learners feel as comfortable and welcome as possible freeing up time for parents/guardians.
