Class

Average rating:4.8Number of reviews:(80)
In this course, students will create a cake, figuring out and following a recipe, and adding their own unique ideas to be the best baker they can be!

Class experience

Students will demonstrate their knowledge of baking and recipes by using the appropriate amount of ingredients.
Students will work calmly and efficiently under pressure.
Students will bake, fill, and decorate a 2-tier cake.
Homework Offered
Enjoy your cake!
Assessments Offered
Students will get feedback throughout the competition. They will vote on their favorite cake at the end, and the winner will receive a certificate.
Grades Offered
Students will be given several recipes one week prior to the start of class. They can choose one cake and one frosting recipe (and a filling recipe if desired), and will need to have the ingredients listed for the start of class. They may also want other supplies, such as food coloring, sprinkles, other decorations, or other ingredients to make their cake unique.
Students will need access to an oven, cake pans, and basic kitchen tools, such as spoons, spatulas, measuring cups and spoons, and a mixer (handheld or counter top).

Common ingredients for cake include: flour, sugar, eggs, butter/oil/margarine, milk, baking powder/soda, and cocoa.
A buttercream frosting is made from powdered sugar, butter, milk, and vanilla. Students may add cocoa or chocolate for a chocolate frosting.
Fruit filling is made with fruit (usually berries), sugar, and a thickener (cornstarch or flour).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be using the oven and stove (if making a filling) for this class. Parental guidance is not required, but may be necessary for those students who have not worked in the kitchen before.
