Students will learn the history of the country of Belgium within the geographic continent of Europe using a recent current event in the news about a man collecting 100-year-old artifacts in Ypres, a significant World War I landmark.
Class experience
This Belgian man had to be careful growing up on his family's farm. Live bombs are still being found there, over a hundred years after the battles there in WWI. Join us as we use a current event to learn about Belgium and a farmer's son who started a museum with 100-year-old artifacts from the significant battles fought over the city of Ypres during WWI. Learn a brief timeline of its history and how Belgium fits in context with our world as a whole. It’s all a part of using current events...
Students will learn about the Belgium's historical timeline and a current event happening in Belgium. They will gain knowledge of key vocabulary and concepts surrounding the news event of a man founding a museum full of WWI artifacts in Ypres.
Teaching this specific style of current events class has been my joy for a long time! I have 16 years experience teaching middle and high school classrooms, and specifically delivering instruction at that level on the topic of social studies, world geography, and current events. I've also taught worldwide in multi-cultural environments in industry, and have several years experiences teaching on online platforms.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
