||News Around the World: Science - Wonderchicken Skull Links Birds to Dinosaurs!

A bird skull that dates back to the dinosaurs? Learners will use the who, what, where, when, why, and how to study a current event. A jeopardy game at the end reinforces what they've learned.

Class Experience

At the end of this class students can say, "I can tell you what a wonderchicken is. I can tell you where they found it. I can tell you who found it and when. I can tell you what it means to the world and what it means to me."

My goal is to get young learners to embrace the process of digging into current events and have fun learning.

All of the stories I choose in my current events classes are fun, human-interest stories like endangered animals, or archeological discoveries, or new inventions, or businesses that booms because of an event that create an opportunity or create a disruption. I want to teach kids to embrace the fun of digging into news stories.
Teaching this specific style of current events class has been my joy for a long time! I have 16 years experience teaching middle and high school classrooms, and specifically delivering instruction at that level on the topic current events. I've been certified to teach business in the public schools. I've taught Future Business Leaders courses in upper elementary and middle schools. Part of teaching business to young minds is to understand case studies and context. Current events training is a critical piece of that and something I have taught for years.
No homework will be assigned for this class.
Learners will need to be able to write/type and have a microphone for discussion. Video is encouraged, but not required.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The learner's progress is assessed by how well the learner participates in the interactions during class.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
There aren't any sensitive issues, and there isn't any perquisite knowledge needed.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
