Class experience

US Grade 9 - 11
This class is taught in English.
Answer the 5 W's (who, what, where, when, and why) for a current event topic.
Learners will be able to identify where global issues are arising on a world map.
Learners will be able to identify and discuss the role of world leaders and business people that are in the news today.
I have two New York State certifications in Special Education (Generalist) and English Language Arts for grades 7-12. I have been working in classrooms as a co teacher, resource teacher, and English teacher for over ten years. During that time, I have worked in Global History, United States History, and Government/Economics classrooms so I am familiar with teaching current events to high school learners. As an English Language Arts teacher, I am experienced in finding credible research and news articles for learners to accurately gain information as well as teaching learners how to find credible sources when conducting independent research.
In class, I will monitor learner's conversations to be sure that students are treating one another with respect and being considerate to each other's thoughts and opinions. If issues are to arise in class regarding learner disagreements, I will notify the parents during or immediately after class to discuss the situation.
As a current event class, issues regarding gun violence, extreme poverty, war/conflict, and human trafficking will arise in our discussion. This course is for learners that can discuss mature news stories. All the stories that are covered in class are those that would be heard or read via Google or Youtube search.
I present learners with news stories from the following sources:
BBC News
Reuters
The Hill
The New York Post
VICE News
Unreported World
CNN, ABC News, Fox News
Aljazeera News
