This class is for the beginner and no prior skills are needed! Did you just bring home a new dog or puppy? Do you have an old dog that you would like to train? Are you looking to create a great relationship with your dog? Then this class might be for you! I am a middle school teacher and dog sport enthusiast. I train weekly with professional and hobbiest dog trainers and my favorite way to train dogs is through games. Topics to be covered: 1. Marker Training - Letting your dog know when they have done the right thing 2. Rewards - Strategies for using food, toys, and play to reward your dog 3. Lifestyle Basics - Crates, potty training, and calming activities to help your dog relax 4. Play - Tips and tricks to have fun with your dog 5. Obedience - Teaching your dog handy and cute behaviors 6. Leash Skills - Communicating with your dog through the leash 7. Socialization - Building a confident dog in any environment We will start the class by introducing ourselves and our dogs and sharing goals for what we want to learn. The class will alternate between short lecture-demonstrations and hands-on learning where students get to try the games and activities with their dogs. There should be time at the end of class for questions and troubleshooting. And if you want to do more, look for a drop in trick and obedience class coming from me in the future.
Learning Goals
Students will have some basic ideas about how to teach behaviors to a dog, how to handle a leash, and learn some fun games for living with and playing with your dog.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am on the executive committee of my Dogsports club and attend weekly dog training practice with my club. I began training dogs for competition at age 9 and have worked with a variety of breeds since. I keep my skills up-to-date by attending workshops from visiting trainers and completing online courses. My favorite program is called Absolute Dogs, where I have a Training Academy subscription and learn games to play to teach dogs skills. Game-based training is my favorite.
