Class Experience

Art Challenges are very popular among artists of all ages. As an Arts Educator, I find the Art Challenge trend a useful tool for enlisting creative minds to think Outside the Box while being challenged to use certain materials along with their own natural talents to achieve an artistic goal.
Each week the Artists will be challenged to create an original art piece using the material specified as a part of challenge.

Art Challenge themes for the Next 4 (TUESDAYS) weeks:
Week One: 12/27/22
THREE MARKER CHALLENGE: Artists will be instructed to draw and color their drawing using three markers randomly selected with their eyes closed. It's a fun way to problem solve creatively.
Week Two: 1/3/23
THREE EMOJI CHALLENGE: Artists will be challenged by creating a character using the traits of the 3 Emoji's that they randomly selected.
(Random Selection usually includes the students choosing a number between one and 10 and that particular number will be associated with a particular emoji. This process challenges the art students and seems more fun to them because of the element of surprise.)
Week Three: 1/10/23
HYBRID CREATURE CHALLENGE: By random selection artists will have two different animal species that are to be creatively and uniquely designed in 2 or 3D form. Students will view of other hybrid art creations from other artists.
Week Four: 1/17/23
SUPER-SIZE ART CHALLENGE: Artists will create a Super-Sized Art piece. Theme : Blue Water!
Each week classes will be presented a new theme for their Art Challenge.

MY ART TEACHING STYLE:
I begin by greeting all the artists and sharing what the Art Challenge Task is for that class.

Visual Examples will be shown to the student via Canva images preselected for the students viewing.

YouTube child friendly videos and Canva images will be preselected showing other artists at work that will be used as examples.
Both Canva and YouTube will serve as Third Party Tools that assist with the students understanding of the Art Challenge each week. All screen shares to the third party platforms will be operated by the teacher primarily to show samples and examples of other artists works. No Parental Guidance will be needed for this class.

Each week there will be an opportunity to create spontaneously and meet the challenge requirements.

Example of a Challenge requirement might be that the art piece needed to be a 3 Dimensional Art piece. An example of 3 Dimensional Art would therefore be given during the initial instruction.
Once instructions have been given, students begin.
The teacher will then change to an overhead camera so that the art that is being created by the teacher can viewed.
Students can ask questions by raising their hands at any time.
Students will be instructed to use their own creativity to meet the Art Challenge.

In this class I encourage individuality, creativity and originality.
One big important part of the Art Challenge is to have confidence to do your best. All art has merit and will be celebrated.
10-15 minutes before class is over, students will share their art piece and explain their ideas and where they came from.
Students will be guided and encouraged to supporting one another.
This class DOES NOT provide How to lessons. I DO provide ideas and lot's of encouragement to all students as well as the students being able to watch the teachers art process throughout the class.

Parental Guidance
In this class, 2 main resources will be used to show art examples and samples to the students. Both Canva and YouTube. With the use of Canva; a third party tool, the teacher will have preselected child-friendly pictures (relevant to the theme) which are useful to inspire ideas among the students. Parents will not need an account because the images relevant to the lesson will be shown via Screen share only. With the use of YouTube; a third party tool, the teacher would have pre selected the age appropriate video content (relevant to the class theme). Parents will not need an account because the video will be shown via Screen Share only.
Supply List
Students will need:
Pencils with Erasers, Markers, Colored Pencils, or Crayons or Color Pastels, or Paint &Brushes. (This would depend on the preference of the artist.) Variety is best!
I request that all students have Thin Black Markers for Line Drawing and Outlining.
I use Papermate Flair Medium Black Felt Tip Pens ( We will use these pens quite often)
I also use Caliart Markers; better for older artists age 10 and up.
Crayola makes a good variety of colors and sizes. Crayola also makes Colored Pencils
Art Paper; drawing pads are economical, Card Stock is a great deal and the paper is more sturdy.
Colored Construction Paper or Craft Paper will be needed. Even Xmas Wrapping paper works good.
I suggest a SCRAP BOX for everyone.
The Best Art Supplies can be found around the House: Toilet Paper Rolls, Paper Towel Rolls, Empty Water Bottles, Empty Egg Cartons, empty Kleenex Boxes, anything cardboard or crafty, yarn, beads, old shoe laces, scrap material. A Scrap Box will be needed!
Child Friendly Scissors, Ruler, Elmers Glue or Glue Stick, Masking Tape.
I DO NOT Advise any usage of Hot Glue Guns.
