In this 4 week interactive course, students will discover the exciting world of the brain! How does our brain influence our memory, emotions, and movements? Is it possible to strengthen our brains? Let's get our questions answered!

Class experience

US Grade 1 - 4
This class is taught in English.
-Students will gain a better understanding and appreciation for their their brains. With this knowledge,  students will learn practical ways to improve their brain function. 
-Structure/function, cause/effects, patterns/relationships, project based learning/creativity/application
Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience
Master of Art in Teaching
Professional Educator License
Certified in Elementary Education 1-6th for Science, Literacy, Math, History, Social Studies
Homework Offered
-Although assignments are meant to be completed during class, students will be expected to completed whatever they couldn't prior to their next class the following week. -During session 3/4, students are expected to write in their sleep logs starting that day of class until the next class the following week (7 days). Their sleep log is attached to the course's google classroom page.

Session 1: Our Brains Introduction. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
-CSF Demonstration Experiment
-Materials: eggs (at least 2), markers to draw on a face (waterproof), 2 plastic containers with tops, and water (to fill the container).

Session 2: Brain Structure/Function
-Brain Diagram Project
-Materials: markers, paint or colored pencils, small white poster board, pen/pencils.

Session 3: Brain Structure/Function ctd, What is a neuron?
-Build a Neuron Project
-Materials: clay or play-dough, recyclables (any combination of bottle caps, styrofoam material, cups, buttons, coins), any food, circular and/or string shaped candy, scissors

Session 4: Sleep, Dreams, and the Brain
-Socktopus Project
-Sleep Log 
-Materials: sleep log document (see google classroom invite link)
-Materials for sock pet:
1 clean adult sock longer than ankle length, 1 cup dry rice or beans (such as kidney beans or black-eyed peas) or cotton filling or old socks/shirts (cut into small strips), string or small rubber band, ribbon, scissors, sharpie or fabric marker.
-Safety is our top priority. I advise parents/guardians/adults to provide supervision during sessions 3 and 4 for our use of scissors.
-During session 3, we have the option of using play-doh. Play-doh may contain wheat, which could cause an allergic reaction if ingested in those sensitive to wheat gluten or with Celiac disease.
