Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
In this fun four week class students will learn the basic needle felting skills and techniques needed to craft cute (or ferocious!) mini-monsters from wool roving.

In our first class we'll cover needle felting safety, tools of the craft, and basic steps for building a monster base. Then we'll work to create additional monstrous details and give our monsters personality. In the following weeks students will refine their skills as we all craft a wild and wacky collection of creative creatures... from one eyed purple people eaters to green ogres and great horned snarfleglumps - the only limit is our imaginations!

We'll also play fun games to help students who may find their creativity stuck... if needed I may even roll a die to see how many eyes, teeth, or tentacles our monsters should have!

As each student progresses in their skill I will add more challenging monster options!

This class is appropriate for students who have never needle felted before, as well as those looking to improve their skills.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
In this class we will be using sharp needles to shape fibers... There is a risk that students may poke their fingers! Please consider your child's ability to exercise care and caution, and follow instructions with sharp objects, before enrolling them in this class!!
Supply List
Students will need a beginners needle felting kit (there are many available) that includes several needles, a felting mat, foam, or pillow, and assorted colors of wool roving... Choose colors that you think would make great monsters, and be sure to have a little black & white for eyes and other detailing!

One of my favorite US suppliers is https://feltingsupplies.livingfelt.com/ but there are lots of great places to find your supplies, and if you have any questions I'm always happy to help folks find what they need to get started!

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I've a textile artist who's been needle felting for over 15 years... I love the quiet tactile creativity that this art form provides, as well as sharing the skill with young learners.
