Class Experience

In our one-time class together, we’ll be discovering what fire is! Many have wondered if a fire is gas or solid; we will be considering this subject. There will be a review of the most common states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. Then we will discuss plasma, a less common state of matter.

In class, learners will be engaged as they understand:
➢ what fire is
➢ how fire burns
➢ why it appears as different colors
➢ why we hear firewood crackle
➢ and much more

Fire is not to be played with, but exploring its properties will make us more knowledgeable about this phenomenon and how it works. This class will include a slideshow presentation to highlight the topic, and discussions throughout. All learners are encouraged to join this class; no prior knowledge is needed. This one-time class will quench learner’s curiosity about fire-one of nature’s wonders!
Learning Goals

Welcome!

It continues to be a privilege to teach on Outschool, and a joy to be able to reach learners around the world. I’m Shelmika or Mrs. Seashell, and I am just as excited to be teaching today on Outschool as I was a year ago.

I was a Homeschool parent of three, but all three of my children have graduated as of May 2023, and now attend different universities across the US. As I enjoyed the daily experience of teaching my children, I also had the opportunity to volunteer as a pre-school teacher. Additionally, at a local school district, I worked as a Social Service Advocate, supporting learners outside the classroom. I have a Bachelor’s of Science degree, and have completed some graduate education coursework as well.

As a teacher, I especially enjoy exploring the world around us through nature studies. Therefore, my Outschool library of classes will mainly include Science/Nature classes. During each class, I enjoy participation from all learners, so discussion is encouraged, and I endeavor to create a safe and relaxed environment with engaging material that will boost a learner’s interest, and thereby their love of learning.

I’m excited to guide your learner on their knowledge quest, and I hope to see them soon on Zoom!

Please contact me if you have any questions or comments. Thank you.
