In this ongoing class, we’ll explore all the major biomes: tundra, grassland, desert, forest, and aquatic. We’ll discuss geography, climate, habitats, ecosystems, vegetation, and animals within each one. (CEFR B1,B2,C1)

In our ongoing class together, we will be exploring the habitats of the world that lay within the biosphere. We’ll be focusing on the five major biomes that spread across the globe. Each learner will discover what biomes are, where they’re located, and what’s the difference between them and habitats/ecosystems. We’ll experience several things about each type of biome such as its climate, vegetation, soil, and wildlife. An animal that lives within the biome will be presented each class; we’ll review the four major spheres of the earth too. Learners will be engaged as they look into these large communities of habitats and learn fascinating facts about them. During our class, everyone will be able to actively participate, there will be discussions and activities. A slideshow will also be presented in each class to highlight information about the biome of the week. You may choose to join one, two, or all weeks! A different biome and animal will be presented each week: Date: TBA Week 1: Forest- Week 2: Grassland- Week 3: Desert- Week 4: Freshwater- Week 5: Tundra- Week 6: Marine- Date: TBA Week 1: Forest- Week 2: Grassland- Week 3: Desert- Week 4: Freshwater- Week 5: Tundra- Week 6: Marine- Learners will gain a greater understanding of the major biomes through exploring the various types and comparing and contrasting them. This is a terrific opportunity to explore the natural world around us. No prior knowledge is needed; all can join. This ongoing class will be an engaging way to experience nature’s wonders-biomes!

After completing each class learners will be able to:

❈ Describe the climate, vegetation, and an animal from each biome
❈ Describe the difference between biomes, habitats, and ecosystems

Supply List
The learners will need a few sheets of blank white paper, a writing utensil, and coloring utensils (a box of crayons, a pack of colored pencils, or a pack of markers).

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Welcome!
It continues to be a privilege to teach on Outschool, and a joy to be able to reach learners around the world. I’m Shelmika or Mrs. Seashell, and I am just as excited to be teaching today on Outschool as I was a year ago.
I was a Homeschool parent of three, but all three of my children have graduated as of May 2023, and now attend different universities across the US. As I enjoyed the daily experience of teaching my children, I also had the opportunity to volunteer as a pre-school teacher. Additionally, at a local school district, I worked as a Social Service Advocate, supporting learners outside the classroom. I have a Bachelor’s of Science degree, and have completed some graduate education coursework as well.
As a teacher, I especially enjoy exploring the world around us through nature studies. Therefore, my Outschool library of classes will mainly include Science/Nature classes. During each class, I enjoy participation from all learners, so discussion is encouraged, and I endeavor to create a safe and relaxed environment with engaging material that will boost a learner’s interest, and thereby their love of learning.
I’m excited to guide your learner on their knowledge quest, and I hope to see them soon on Zoom!
