Class Experience

In our one-time class together, we’ll investigate and discuss one of the oldest observed natural phenomena on Earth- lightning. It is an intriguing subject to learn about, and we will delve into various aspects of lightning.

In our time together, a few things we'll discover are:
➢ what lightning is
➢ how a strike develops
➢ where lightning occurs
➢ types of lightning

Learners will gain a better understanding of the complexity of this natural phenomena through some basic chemistry.

We’ll also touch on the subject of thunder because, of course, where there’s lightning, there’s thunder. We will have discussions and there will be a slideshow presented to highlight the different aspects of lightning. Interesting facts about lightning will be present too. This one-time class will teach us about another awesome wonder of nature-lightning!

Learning Goals

After completing this class learners will be able to:
➢	Identify what lightning is
➢	Describe how a lightning strike develops
➢	List types of lightning

Welcome!

It continues to be a privilege to teach on Outschool, and a joy to be able to reach learners around the world. I’m Shelmika or Mrs. Seashell, and I am just as excited to be teaching today on Outschool as I was a year ago.

I was a Homeschool parent of three, but all three of my children have graduated as of May 2023, and now attend different universities across the US. As I enjoyed the daily experience of teaching my children, I also had the opportunity to volunteer as a pre-school teacher. Additionally, at a local school district, I worked as a Social Service Advocate, supporting learners outside the classroom. I have a Bachelor’s of Science degree, and have completed some graduate education coursework as well.

As a teacher, I especially enjoy exploring the world around us through nature studies. Therefore, my Outschool library of classes will mainly include Science/Nature classes. During each class, I enjoy participation from all learners, so discussion is encouraged, and I endeavor to create a safe and relaxed environment with engaging material that will boost a learner’s interest, and thereby their love of learning.

I’m excited to guide your learner on their knowledge quest, and I hope to see them soon on Zoom!

Please contact me if you have any questions or comments. Thank you.
