This class is a fun, interactive class that kids can take to share their experiences with nature photography. I created this class because I love taking pictures of nature! It is one way that I can quiet my mind and connect with nature. It brings me such peace! This class is designed to be student centered and less about learning "content," but through exploration, learning content will be natural. In the same way a "book club" is conducted, students must complete assignments outside of class and be prepared with their assignments completed prior to classes. Day 1: Introduction to Nature Photography: Students will learn the basics of nature photography using a digital camera and/or smartphone. They will learn basics about how to take a picture, zoom in, focus on an object, etc.... Students will practice content during class. They will also learn how to upload photos to Google Drive. Homework: Take pictures of plants: trees, flowers, moss, etc... Day 2: PLANTS: Students share out what they took pictures of for plants. They will be expected to share at least one interesting fact about each specimen they observe. Homework: Take pictures of insects Day 3: INSECTS: Students share out what they took pictures of for insects. They should be able to share at least one interesting fact about each specimen they observe. Homework: Take pictures of any kind of nature! Day 4: FINAL SHARE OUT: For our last class, students will share out what any nature pictures they want. Again, share out at least one interesting fact about each picture.

Parental Guidance
Students will need to practice taking pictures on their own time and upload them to a shared Google Drive. They will need to prepare for the class ahead of time so that each lesson has content. I want this class to be 75% student led. If students are not knowledgable about technology, parents should help them to ensure they are getting the most out of this class.
I will be happy to assist in any way, but please be aware that I am not able to trouble-shoot during class time. Thank you.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am not a professional photographer, but I love nature. I am a high school Biology teacher. I often teach my students about how important it is to take quality pictures of nature when you are studying them. Photographs are evidence of what you observed. They can also be useful when you are studying a specific organism because you can get a still picture of it to observe over and over again. They are also great for adding to a nature blog or nature journal. I will be happy to assist parents individually if they would like to enhance this class at home.
