Is your learner a nature lover that likes to explore and create? This one-time class combines journaling, nature, and lots of fun! Together we’ll create unique nature journals - perfect for practicing writing, art, scientific inquiry, mindfulness, and social-emotional learning. Before class, learners will go for a nature walk or spend some time outside to observe the nature around them. They will bring in nature items or photos from their walks or time outside. There will be a nature walk guide available in the classroom 1 week before the class meeting. This guide will help your learner direct their focus and ask questions about their surroundings - which will come in handy when it’s time to create a journal entry! At the start of class, we’ll introduce ourselves and check for supplies. Then we’ll discover: The basics of how to create a nature journal What goes into a journal entry The benefits of a nature journal - including mindfulness and relaxation! As well as how to bring creativity into them through nature items, collages, drawing, and writing! Once we are confident in how we want to set up our journal entries, I will provide a prompt with a few specific questions. Learners will then have time to respond to the prompts with writing, drawing, nature collaging or a combination of the three! They will gain confidence in forming questions, looking for small details, and making connections. Through our journal entry process, learners will practice mindfulness through questions, discussions, and breathing! At the end of class, learners will be encouraged to share their journal entries and any other thoughts or questions they have about their nature journaling experience! After class, learners will also receive additional optional nature journal prompts that they can complete after class or on another day. These extra prompts will be posted in the classroom shortly after class. This class is super interactive - we'll be creating together, brainstorming, and sharing. Each learner will have several opportunities to share and speak, but it is not required if they are not comfortable. Be sure your learner has enough space to work with their journal and any paint or nature items. Learners will work on mindfulness, social-emotional skills, and scientific inquiry and all while having a blast! My teaching style is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, and I believe nature is one of the best teachers! No prior knowledge or experience is required. My class is a welcoming space for all learners. If you have any questions or concerns, please send me a message and I would be happy to help with your family's needs!
Learning Goals
Learners will strengthen their connection to and respect for nature! They will gain confidence in forming scientific questions, art skills, writing, and speaking. Throughout the class, they will also practice mindfulness (sometimes without even realizing it!) and tune in to emotional learning.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Outschool friends!
My name is Remy, and I am so excited to learn with you!
In my classes, we connect with the Earth and each other! My nature-based classes engage the sensory system, help develop self-confidence, and strengthen problem-solving skills. Every learner gets several opportunities to share and ask questions too!
As an educator, my experience is widespread and versatile! I currently work as a forest school mentor in Los Angeles, giving kids the opportunity to explore local trails and natural spaces while creating a meaningful connection to the earth.
I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Integrated Educational Studies and a Minor in French. I’ve taught preschool, gymnastics, and worked as a behavioral therapist. As a volunteer, I taught English in Cape Town, South Africa. I have also been a summer camp counselor for 9 years!
My classes create a welcoming, relaxed, fun, and creative space for everyone. Each learner will feel seen, heard, and understood.
Communication and empathy are key! This is the foundation for my teaching philosophy. Every child is capable, intelligent, and deserves to have their voice heard. My goal for each class is to help them find that voice, be creative, and most importantly - have tons of fun!
Fun fact: I’m a BIG thrill lover! I’ve cage-dived with great white sharks, and bungee jumped off the highest bridge in the world - twice! I love dance, coffee, yoga, and anything outdoors.
See you in class!
