Have you ever been outside and noticed that the day was just absolutely beautiful? Noticed the way the sun shines on the grass, the bees buzz, the dewdrops delicately balanced on the blades of grass... Maybe you like exploring outside at night- the way the stars slowly appear in the night sky, the moon changes daily, and the bats flit and squeak overhead. In this class, learners will find new ways to experience the beauty of the world around them. Each week, there will be a seasonally...
This class is taught in English.
Learners will be taught how to explore and document nature, will learn about their environment, and will learn creative techniques for watercolor, pen and ink, and marker art.
Faith is an avid outdoor educator with over 17 years of experience.
Each week, learners will be asked to spend a few minutes per day making simple sketches. Then, they will create at least one fully completed nature journal page for the week complete with drawing and painting, a short written documentation of the finding, and any questions or observations they have from the experience.
Each learner will need the following materials: Watercolor Paper notebook or pad Regular white paper (multipurpose craft paper is great, printer paper will be just fine!) for quick daily sketches Watercolor Paints and brush (cup of water and towel to dry brush) Markers Black Ink Pen (I recommend either Sharpie FineLiners, Prismacolor, or Sakura Micron pens. The Sakura are waterproof pens.) Colored Pencils Pencil and Eraser Salt (for creating watercolor washes) Learners may wish to have access to the following: Tape (washi, scotch tape) or glue for affixing nature findings to their final journal pages Ruler for measuring or making straight lines Clipboard to journal outside Hair dryer to dry watercolor quickly
Learners will not be graded but will receive affirming and positive feedback during class and in the classroom.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
