In this ongoing club we practice the skills scientists use with weekly Nature Journaling. Each week we will review how to make observations, practice sketching a new wild animal, plant, or landscape, and share stories of the things we’ve seen outside that fit this week’s theme. Sketching and observing are two hugely important skills in science, and two incredibly fun ways to learn more about the world outdoors. Each class will be structured similarly with new weekly themes. Welcome and...
Learners will: Explore various ways to make observations Practice sketching wild animals, plants, and landscapes Share stories with others
Professionally I have accumulated over 3 years of experience working as a Teacher/Naturalist at two different outdoor learning centers. In both roles I taught environmental education programs as school field trips, scout programs, birthday parties, one-off programs, multi-week series, summer camps, and more. I also had the opportunity to create my own curriculum for after school and weekend programming and offered a variety of course options. I have always enjoyed empowering young people to find a way to love learning, and I hope to use this collection of experience to share knowledge of nature and inspire learners to explore outdoors through our classes together.
Each week learners are given a prompt to take outside and journal about for 15 minutes to practice the week’s theme.
Notebook or sketchbook, writing and drawing materials
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
