45 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Children will learn to hone and record their observation skills for the natural outdoors using a personal nature journal they create in class. First, we will use materials from the learner supply list to assemble and decorate our journals. Next, we will see how to record information about our nature items that we bring to class and share our observations of these items. Journal entry techniques such as making nature rubbings, pressings, stamp prints, tracings, sketches, words, and use of symbols to record our observations will be taught.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to use their observation and sensory skills to connect on a deeper level with nature. This will include building more awareness of the details of what they see, hear, smell, and feel in the outdoors, and how to make notes of their observations in a nature journal. Fine motor skills, creativity, and following directions will also be practiced as we make our own journal.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Our youngest learners are super curious! I love teaching children about the world around them and engaging them in learning that matters to THEM, tapping into THEIR curiosities. I have over 15 years of teaching experience as a certified early childhood educator. I believe that children learn best through active hands-on learning that emerges from their own interests and allows for self-directed exploration and inquiry. I'm a mother of three (now adult) children and I enjoy crafting in my spare time and playing with our two dogs. I recently rescued a puppy and she's doing great!
