Description

Class Experience

Learners will come away with a better understanding of how scientific knowledge of prehistoric creatures grew over time, based on the evidence collected. I hope that when they next collect seashells, they think of Mary Anning, and the power that one person's curiosity can have.

In addition, the course incorporates the interpretation of timelines and the sketching skills as we learn to draw the elusive plesiosaur.
For the plesiosaur sketch, learners will need: 1 Pencil with a good eraser 1 piece of white paper (min. 8.5x11in.) Colored pencils to add a background
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
I will briefly mention that Anning's father passed away when she was 11. (It was due to his death that she collected fossils to sell to tourists to support her family.)
I will assemble the visual aids as a backdrop for my story, using such wonderful resources as Stone Girl Bone Girl by Laurence Anholt and the Natural History Museum of London's online collection material.
