This 5 week FLEX class takes learning outdoors as we use objects in nature to learn early math skills combined with natural science. This course uses Montessori and Waldorf learning practices as we use Mother Nature's resources as hands-on learning tools. This course follows preschool and kindergarten curriculum and will cover counting, patterns, geometry (shapes), measurement & data, addition & subtraction.

Patterns & Symmetry
We will take objects that we found in nature and create different kinds of patterns. We will explore patterns found in music. A specific pattern found in nature and in many living things is called symmetry. We will look for symmetry in nature and create our own symmetrical pieces of art with objects found in nature.

Using objects found in nature, we will practice adding and subtracting. We will practice using hands-on activities and songs.
Students will learn how to count, identify geometric shapes, create patterns, take measurements, analyze data, and add and subtract.
I am a certified teacher and taught kindergarten for five years in the public school system. My students always enjoyed learning with tangible objects and math manipulatives as they learned math concepts. They did best learning with concrete objects before moving to abstract concepts. Combining hands-on learning with nature helps keep interest and motivates students to learn.
All supplies will come from the student's weekly nature walks. Examples include rocks, sticks, flowers, grass, leaves, pinecones, etc.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
