In this ongoing course, we will meet once a week to explore the various beautiful ecosystems of the Earth. All classes are a combination of Earth sciences and art, where we will learn about and discuss the life forms, non living elements, and habitats found in each of the ecosystems. Along with learning about each ecosystem, we will also be creating drawings that depict the type of life and structure of each system. Week of 7/12 : Rainforest Week of 7/19: Arctic/Tundra Week of 7/26: Rocky Desert Week of 8/2: Coral Reef Week of 8/9: Temperate + Boreal Forests Week of 8/16: Sandy Desert Week of 8/23: Freshwater Week of 8/ 30: Marine Week of 9/6: Grasslands Week of 9/13: Volcanic More topics will be added as we progress. All of my classes are discussion-based and I encourage the participation of all students through questions, discussion topics, and story-telling. I truly believe in the power of hands-on learning through creative expression, and I find that one of the greatest ways to learn about nature is through art! This keeps students engaged, and the combination of drawing and learning is wonderful for helping students remember the material. Please have paper and drawing utensils ready!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the interconnectedness of ecosystems, the delicate balance required for them to function, and how the living and nonliving elements work together to create rich, diverse systems on Earth.

Hello! My name is Samantha and I am passionate about connecting with others and creating community through learning. I have been a teacher (pre-K through 12) at both in-person homeschooling co-ops as well as online platforms for over six years now, and I absolutely love any topics related to the environment, biology, nature sciences, art, and yoga/mindfulness/meditation. I especially believe in the power of art as a way of processing and learning information, so many of my classes are a fusion of science/biology + art.
It is very important to me that learning should be interesting and FUN! I focus on interactive classes from a large range of topics that are discussion-based, engaging, and cater to every student's needs. I have a large toolbox of methods and ideas that I use to help each student feel comfortable, safe to explore their curiosity, and connected to their learning experience.
I have a Bachelors of Arts in Anthropology as well as a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Sciences, and my passion is to share my love for the world, humanity, and this Earth with our youth. They are our future! I know that during these trying times, it is important that our children continue to learn about the world and connect with others. It is my hope to create an online community of creativity, curiosity, and connection together. Technology is a wonderful thing, and I am grateful for this platform to share and learn virtually!
