This class is meant to be an introduction to the nature journal as a scientific tool.  Please be aware that the focus of our journals will be direct scientific observation rather than artistic expression.

In our first week, I will describe how to create and use a scientific nature journal.  Each subsequent week we will have a different nature focus which we will explore through a prerecorded video, journaling prompts, and a collaborative game or project.  Students do not need to go on extensive nature walks in order to complete assignments.  I encourage students to look at nature that can be found in their own corner of the world whether that be urban, suburban, or rural.  The only prerequisite is curiosity about nature!

**Class Format**
Mondays – Prerecorded Video – Students should watch the video and make related direct observations throughout the week.

Wednesdays – Collaborative Game or Project – Examples include nature-focused adaptations of common games such as Search-and-Find, Match the Object, and What’s Different.

Fridays – Nature Journal Sharing – Students are asked to share pictures of their journals from the week and discuss their findings together.
