May is National Strawberry Month! Strawberries and spring go together perfectly, so join me in May to make a delicious and easy strawberry galette and homemade whipped cream! Students will have the opportunity to interact with the teacher and students through engaging and thoughtful questions throughout the class. Class Structure: 1) Hellos & Introductions 2) Supply Check 3) Kitchen Safety 4) Making a Crust 5) Making the Filling 6) Baking Our Pie
Students will be able to: - Practice cooking and kitchen skills with adult supervision - Make a strawberry galette from scratch - Ask and answer questions about baking techniques and processes - Interact with other students to celebrate Strawberry Month
I am a certified classroom educator for grades 4-12. I am also a certified baker in the state of Georgia, specializing in pies. I run my own baking business.
INGREDIENTS LIST Crust: - Flour - Salt - 1 stick of butter (I highly recommend Kerrygold) - Water - Ice Filling: - 2 cartons of fresh strawberries - Sugar - Vanilla Extract - 1 Egg or carton of eggs whites - Water Whipped Cream: - Heavy Cream - Powdered Sugar - Vanilla Extract KITCHEN SUPPLIES - Food processor or pastry cutter (OPTIONAL) - Kitchen Scale (OPTIONAL) - High-Speed Mixer (hand held or counter top) - 1 Cup Liquid Measuring Cup - Parchment Paper - Sauce Pan - 2 mixing bowls - Knife (for cutting strawberries) - Measuring Cups (1 cup and 1/2 cup) - Teaspoons (1 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon, 1/4 teaspoon) - 1 Tablespoon - Pie Plate/Pan - Baking Sheet - 2 Baking Spatulas or Large Kitchen Spoons
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Younger students may need technical assistance or parent supervision during class. Students will also need adult supervision in the kitchen while we make our pies, especially since we will be using knives and the oven.
