***PLEASE NOTE: Before class, children should read the book, or have someone read it with them.*** Ahoy! Let’s get together and talk about our favorite ocean friends, Narwhal and Jelly, in their fourth adventure book “Narwhal’s Otter Friend” by Ben Clanton. This is the fourth of five books in a fun early reader graphic novel series. Although there are five books in the series, they are stand-alone books. You can read and enjoy them in any order! The main goal of my book club classes is to cultivate a love of reading. Students read a high-interest, fun book before class and then get to talk about the book with their peers during class. It is a social opportunity as well as a way to hear different ideas and responses to the text. Before class, children should read the book, or have someone read it with them. In class, I will ask questions to guide the children in discussion. Students will have a chance to tell us what they thought of the characters, the best parts of the story, connections they made between the text and their own lives, and questions they might want to ask the author. Please bring the book to class with you so you can show and talk about your favorite parts!
Learning Goals
Students will engage in a discussion of a shared text.

Supply List
Students should read the book “Narwhal’s Otter Friend” by Ben Clanton prior to class, or have someone read it to them. This book is available for purchase from most places that sell books (for about $7), or to borrow from your local library. Students should bring their copy of the book. OPTIONAL: Some students are more comfortable when they know ahead of time what questions will be asked in class. I will provide a list of book club questions that students may review before class to help them prepare for book club. These questions will help us start our discussion, though additional questions may come up based on our discussion. Please note, students are not required to answer these questions before class.
