Class Experience
Students will feel confident writing a narrative writing piece that focuses on the development of characters, setting, problem and solution. Students will also become familiar with the narrative arc that includes exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution. We will use graphic organizers to structure our writing and bring our ideas to life. I will be using a mentor text to show students a strong writing sample and use an I do, we do, you do approach. Students will engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally and logically. Students will use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, and description, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters.
I have 5 years of experience as an Elementary School Teacher. I have taught narrative writing to general and special education students. I have also utilized different programs and have found the best way to support students through this process.
There will be no homework for this class.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I will be informally assessing each student during every class session. I will also grade their final narrative writing piece.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will refer to a mentor text written by me during most class sessions.
