Class Experience

US Grade 11 - 12
In this three-week course, students will learn to write narratives. Narratives tell a story of a single event, instance, or experience. The purpose is to show how this experience significantly impacted one's life. Narratives can vary in length but always show the importance of this single moment. More specifically, personal narratives are common prompts for both high school and college. By writing your own narrative, you demonstrate the importance of things in your own life and how they are important in others as well!

This course is designed to prepare students for college personal narrative writing. These are traditional entrance essays or college application essays so we are focusing on developing these skills in this course! There will be writing in class but there will also be required writing outside of class.

I have taught professionally for five years in public schools but have worked for more than ten years in tutoring, mentoring, and educating students. Every year of my professional teaching, we have done this unit as a way to prepare for the school year, introduce ourselves, and as college preparation. I also teach vignettes which is a type of personal narrative on Outschool!
