In this 4 session course, students will learn how to write a personal narrative essay.

Class experience

In class 1 the students will focus on defining a narrative. The students will learn that a narrative is a story that tells of an experience that the writer has had. A narrative has six parts: title, introduction, beginning of story, middle events, ending events and the conclusion. Each part of the narrative is broken down in class according to the following class schedule:

Class 1: Title and Introduction: The students will learn the definition of a narrative and engage in activities that help them determine a topic for their narratives. the students will complete a narrative outline in class that allows them to plot out their narratives and begin writing the introduction.

Class 2: Sequence of events: The class will learn how to write a strong middle to their narratives. I will walk the students through the process of plotting the beginning, middle and ending events of their narratives. The class will begin writing their beginning and middle events in this session. I will also take time to meet with the students in monitored breakout rooms to answer their questions and discuss ideas.

Class 3: Finishing the narrative: I will work with the class to finish writing their narratives by writing the ending events and their conclusion. This session will also focus on helping the students learn to edit their writing by checking for spelling, grammatical errors, punctuation and fluency in their narratives.

Class 4: The students will take turns presenting their narratives to the class. The students will also be encouraged to give one another feedback on their work.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
***Please be advised that I do teach every class, even if only one student is enrolled. If your child is the only one in the class and you wish to have them transferred to a section with more learners or withdrawn altogether, please send me a message and I will make the necessary arrangements.
