The Silver Chair is the wonderful fourth installment of the Chronicles of Narnia. In this four-week class, learners will participate in meaningful discussions and engaging activities as we read C. S. Lewis' classic novel. Book clubs are an excellent way to engage reluctant readers or help enthusiastic readers dig a little deeper. Students will need their own copy of the text to complete assigned readings before attending class and should have already read the first three books in the series, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Whether your student is reading the Chronicles of Narnia for the first time or is an enthusiastic fan on their third re-read, this class will be full of fun for all. We will explore the text and it's themes through discussion and a variety of engaging critical thinking activities. Class will be conducted in a casual, book club style with plenty of time for discussion. The reading schedule will be as follows: Lesson 1: chapters 1-4 Discussion and activities will focus on setting and a quick review of previous books. Lesson 2: chapters 5-8 Focus on character contrast and development Lesson 3: chapters 9-12 Focus on plot and predictions Lesson 4: chapters 13-16 (finish book) Focus on themes developed through the story
Learning Goals
Students will sharpen their literacy skills and foster a love of reading!

I am passionate about building authentic positive relationships with my students. By modeling healthy relationships and creating a safe place for them to flourish, I hope to give my students life skills beyond the content I teach. I create safe, inviting spaces for kids to build relationships with other students, practicing the skills of empathy in the context of a caring community.
My husband and I have two daughters and two dogs. I love to read, bake, and knit (but not all at the same time!). I can't wait to see you in class!
