During this course, students will read C.S. Lewis's book, The Magician's Nephew. During our classes we will discuss the chapters assigned for each class (three chapters per meeting). Students will learn to engage the books they read by discussing how characters are interacting with each other and why and also exploring themes that arise throughout the story. Students will also engage the story through different project assignments. They will write stories, conduct character interviews, and even make a treat based on the story. My goal as a teacher is to be a guide. I will facilitate discussions and encourage students to both give voice to their thoughts and be kind to others as they voice their own. Each lesson will be highly interactive. Students should be prepared to participate in discussions and to share their projects during each meeting. No prior knowledge or experience is required for this class. Students only need to bring a love for reading and discussion! Hello! My name is Rose Bradway. I am excited to meet you! My class offerings include book clubs, writing classes, and more. As a lifelong bookwyrm and writer, I'm passionate about helping my students learn the joy of discovering new worlds in books and creating their own through writing.
I have a bachelor's in counseling (with a minor in Koine Greek) and a master's in theological studies. During the course of my academic career, I took classes on history, philosophy, psychology, education, and even a computer science class. In my three years on Outschool, I have helped my students discover a love for reading, gain confidence in their writing, and more. I have taught in a variety of settings from online to in person with any number of students from one to ten or more. I enjoy teaching students of all ages but especially middle school and high school.
The world is a big, wide, beautiful place. I aim to foster curiosity and a sense of wonder in my students as we discuss stories and write them. My philosophy behind teaching is that everyone is capable of learning if given the opportunity. I plan my lessons for maximum student engagement. I want my students to love learning and discovering new things. I am their guide, their encouragement, and the person for them to fall back on when they get stuck. I hope each of my students can leave each class excited to engage the world around them. In my free time I love reading, writing, exploring used book stores, and going on hikes. I look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
