Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is a classic children's book full of wonder, magic, and adventure. In this four week class, learners will participate in meaningful discussions and engaging activities as we read C. S. Lewis' introductory novel to the world of Narnia. Book clubs are an excellent way to engage reluctant readers or help enthusiastic readers dig a little deeper. Students will need their own copy of the text to complete assigned readings before attending class.

If you don't see a time that works for you or your student is more comfortable with it, I do offer this class in a flex option.

Whether your student has never heard of Narnia or is an enthusiastic fan on their third re-read, this class will be full of fun for all. We will explore the text and it's themes through discussion and reading aloud specific sections of the book. Class will be conducted in a casual, book club style with plenty of time for discussion.

The reading schedule will be as follows:

Lesson 1: chapters 1-4
Discussion and activities will focus on author and setting: How does WWII affect the children and their actions?

Lesson 2: chapters 5-8
Focus on character contrast and development: Compare and contrast Peter and Edmund. How does their birth order affect their characters?

Lesson 3: chapters 9-12
Focus on plot and predictions: Complete a plot map together. Focus on most important events that have happened so far.

Lesson 4: chapters 13-17 (finish book)
Focus on themes developed through the story: Sacrifice and forgiveness.
Learning Goals
Students will sharpen their literacy skills and foster their love of reading!

Almost one year on Outschool and loving every minute of it!

I am passionate about building authentic positive relationships with my students. By modeling healthy relationships and creating a safe place for them to flourish, I hope to give my students life skills beyond the content I teach. I create safe, inviting spaces for kids to build relationships with other students, practicing the skills of empathy in the context of a caring community.

My husband and I have two daughters and two dogs. I love to read, bake, and knit (but not all at the same time!). I can't wait to see you in class!
