Nancy Clancy Secret Admirer Book Club Ages 7-10
In this 4 week course, we will discuss the book Nancy Clancy Secret Admirer. The students will be provided a journal PDF with a structured format that will help them strengthen comprehension skills through the use of authentic literature.

Description
Class Experience
This course is broken down into 4 weeks and will allow the student to experience the full scope and sequence of how to effectively read for comprehension. The first 5 minutes of class we will read along with a section in the book. The next 10 minutes we will play a flash round of "What do you remember" where we quickly run through in a group setting some fun information taken from the chapters we have read - think of Jeopardy! Students will learn how to engage in thoughtful conversation, acquire skills that will help them master reading comprehension, learn about other books they might enjoy, create friendships with others who have shared interests.
Each student will receive a 32 page journal PDF before class begins. Before week 1's meeting, the students should read the first three chapters of the book and complete the sections listed for chapters 1 and 2. We will go through chapter 3 together. Each week's format is laid out in similar fashion where the student will have journal prompts, questions and vocabulary words to engage with the book through research, writing and drawing. Students have the option of creating a diorama of a scene in the book, a character vision board for one of the characters in the book, a collage of an event they have experienced in their lives similar to the book.
