1-1 Foundations in Reading & Writing (All Ages)

Beginner - Advanced Level
Each session is for 1 hour and incudes puppets, games, a story and discussion. Once a week, we will work on reading strategies using puppets, show & tell and memory games (for under 12's). Topic/Theme 1 - speaking & listening; learning how to interact virtually with peers. Topic/Theme 2 - learning letters, sight words, word families and compound words Topic/Theme 3 - writing stories & books that we write together. This class is taught in English.
Learning goals are to illustrate what areas need improvement and by the end of the course the student should know: - How to interact and work closely with another learner - How to write full sentences - How to paraphrase - How to read between the lines This class will also illustrate what areas need improvement. By the end of the course (5-11yr olds) the student should know; In regards to reading: names of letters and their sounds, consonant blends, vowel blends, understand syllables, phonetic knowledge, cluster digraphs, compound words, linguistic tools, comprehension and how to use a dictionary & thesaurus. In regards to writing: letter forming, spelling, character description, stories/compositions, improvement in story telling. For the 12-16yr olds note taking, essay writing, dictation, CV's & cover/formal letter writing, speed writing, script writing, debating & public speaking skills, poetry and writing for academic puropses. The overall goal is to present a clear path, to unleashing the hidden Author.
I have been a reading specialist for more than 20 years and I have been making up games since I was a teenager; so being able to design classes and games on Zoom for learners on Outschool; to help with their reading and play in their own time with their families and friends is an honour!

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I do encourage parents to sit off screen; as I give lots of tips to continue throughout the week.
Any stories/books read in class will have been written by Nana-Bee or the learners in the class.
