Each session is a 50 minute group lesson with puppets, singing, games, a story and discussion (appropriate for each age group). At any time you can book your one time only, 50 minute slot on Saturdays, 1:1 READING ABILITY ASSESSMENT as a separate class. Sessions thereafter, will continue for 50 minutes, as small groups, once a week, learning reading strategies, stories, singing and poetry stories using puppets Mabel & Grog the Ravens, show & tell, speaking & listening, games, spelling tests,...
The Reading Ability Assessment (one time only, optional throughout the course) will illustrate what areas need improvement and by the end of the course the student should know, (depending on which category they started at, in the Reading Ability Assessment), THEME FOR TERM 1; Reading names of letters and their sounds, consonant blends, vowel blends, word families, spelling, understand syllables and phonetic knowledge. THEME FOR TERM 2: Cluster digraphs, compound words, linguistic tools, spelling, poetry, debates, comprehension and how to use a dictionary & thesaurus. THEME FOR TERM 3: Letter forming, spelling, character description, stories/compositions, dictation, formal letter writing, script writing, public speaking skills, pseudonyms, poetry and prose. The overall goal is to present a clear path, to unleashing the hidden Author and having a good grasp of English Language.
I have been a reading specialist for more than 20 years and I have been making up games since I was a teenager; so being able to design classes and games on Zoom for learners on Outschool; to help with their reading and play in their own time with their families and friends is an honour!
