Name That Person: Black History Edition is a fun trivia game that challenges learners to identify as minute famous Black Americans as they can in 1.5 minutes. This is a facial recognition game in which learners will be shown pictures of famous Black athletes, Black celebrities, and Black politicians; and they must quickly write down the names for each person shown. This game is always fun for everyone because learners always have a good time showing what they know. How will the class run?...
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. I am a former English & Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies tutor/teacher assistant for grades K-5 and a current high school teacher. I teach African-American History I and II and Life Skills courses in my current position. I see so many students that are not where they need to be when it comes to reading and knowledge of history in high school. I think a great deal of this comes from not having that strong foundation that is needed in elementary school/younger ages, thus my reasoning for teaching reading, social studies, and life skills.

Learners may be introduced to faces on Black History figures that were involved in some topics that are controversial and political in nature. (The Civil Rights Movement, Segregation, Slavery, Racial Inequality). The topics may be sensitive areas for some learners and their families. This class does not go in-depth with these topics, but parents should be aware that pictures of famous political figures will be shown and names of political figures are included in this game. There should not be a need for discussion about any topics related to political sides or agendas, but should they arise, I will redirect the conversation back to the game; and all class discussions of sensitive topics will occur in a respectful, objective, and honest way. I encourage you to reach out to me should you have any further questions or concerns prior to registering your learner for this course.
