45 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1 hour per week. Each lesson has a worksheet to be completed after the lesson. Students are expected to read through the text before the lesson to familiarise themselves with it - texts will be posted at least 24 hours before the lesson.
Assessment
Students receive verbal feedback during the lesson and written feedback from work submitted after the lesson. Please note marking is usually done on Thursdays and Fridays - if work is return after that I will always do my best to return it before the next lesson, but I can't always guarantee it will be completed on time.

Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
Intermediate Level
This ongoing class is ideal for students who need to improve or master their reading comprehension skills. The high interest comprehensions (covering a wide variety of topics such as - history, geography, the natural world, current affairs, biographies and science topics) challenge students to develop the core reading skills: retrieval, vocabulary, summary, inference, compare and contrast, prediction and author choice. The text are purpose written using the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level and Flesch Reading Ease to ensure the texts are reading age appropriate.
Students will be challenged with 1, 2 or 3 mark questions so they learn to understand what the question is asking them to do and how to write detailed, extended answers and use evidence to support their answers.
Lessons start by reading the comprehension and checking understanding - then, using chat, students answer a series of 1, 2 and 3 mark questions (exemplars are then shared with the class).
Students then work independently answering the questions on the worksheet which is submitted after lesson for marking and feedback.

Week commencing 4th of November: Remembrance Day
