Class Experience
Welcome to Nailed It! Weekly Art History and Project Challenge Flex class! Each week students will be presented with a Nearpod lesson that incorporates embedded videos and activities that engage the learner while they discover each artist. Then learners will be encouraged to attempt to replicate the artist's technique in a Nailed It! Art Challenge. At the end of each Nearpod lesson, learners will be shown two art pieces by the artist of the day and they'll get to choose which project they want to work on in a 20-minute art challenge. Of course, this isn't a strict 20-minute challenge. I mean, it's not like the TV show where they take all supplies away at the end of the 20 minutes. Many students find it an added challenge to post pictures of what they were able to accomplish during the 20-minute time frame and a picture of their completed work beyond the 20 minutes. This will primarily be an art sketching type course, but students are welcome to explore any form of art that they choose to present their completed Nailed It projects. Students' engagement with other students will be achieved by posting and commenting on each other’s completed art projects in the Outschool classroom Additionally, the Nearpod lessons will include "bulletin board" slides where learners will post their thoughts on the artist's works and will include challenge work such as scavenger hunts in the house to find items that remind them of certain art styles. Week 1- Munch Week 2- Kandinsky Week 3- Van Gogh Week 4- Monet Week 5- Pablo Picasso, Week 6- Leonardo da Vinci Week 7- Frida Kahlo Week 8- René Magritte Week 9- Henri Matisse Week 10- Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Week 11- Roy Lichtenstein Week 12- Andy Warhol That's it! 12 weeks of wonderful art exploration. Don't worry if you missed this round, as it'll be offered again soon.
Learning Goals
Students will learn art history, art technique and create their own personal art project.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Maryland Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I grew up in Wisconsin where I completed my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education at UW Stout. I've taught for the public school system for 14 years in a variety of positions including classroom teacher, interventionist, ELL teacher and elementary science lab teacher. I hold a Masters Degree in Reading and School Administration from Johns Hopkins. After leaving the public school system I've spent the last several years teaching middle school Science and History at a homeschool tutorial while being a homeschool mom. I enjoy teaching hands on engaging courses that spark the interest of students with the ultimate goal of encouraging them to become life long learners. I welcome student interaction and questions.
In my personal life I LOVE to read, travel and explore new areas, especially the beach! I am a Girl Scout leader and adore every single girl in my troop. As a troop leader I am certified in several outdoors areas- archery, canoe, kayak, camping, etc. I can't wait to share some of my love of the outdoors with families here on Outschool.
