3 in-class hoursClass Experience
Students will learn by listening to my demonstrations of proper scale fingerings. They will then be asked to demonstrate the proper scale fingerings themselves. We start with warm-ups and then progress to taking on the scales one key at a time. This course is all about scales. We will use demonstrations of classical pieces with scale usage such as Mozart's K545.
Learning Goals
The students will learn the proper fingerings for all the major scales in 12 keys using the cycle of 5ths. Once this is covered we will tackle the relative minor scales for all of these scales. More adept learners will cover multiple octaves up to the point of 4-octave Hanon scales.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Through my years of teaching experience, I have found a flaw in how scales are understood. People think that you can learn scales on your own with no guidance. This is not true! The piano has a design that the hand must conform to in order to smoothly articulate certain passages quickly. The fingerings have been worked out and they have been around for hundreds of years. All you have to do is learn them!
I have been teaching the piano for eighteen years. Over the years my students have had to audition for college and high school music schools. At every audition, there is a scale demonstration. I designed this course with those players in mind. Take this course and you will master your scales with effortless grace across the entire range of the piano keyboard. When someone asks you to play any major scale, you will be able to do it in a flash.
