Could dragons be dinosaurs? Are there mysterious half fish half human mermaids at the bottom of the ocean? Is there a mysteriously tall, hairy creature stalking the forests of North America? In this ongoing class students will learn about some of the most infamous mythological creatures or monsters. The lesson is presented with a slide show with text, images, and videos when appropriate. I do a lot of story telling to bring the creatures to life. Throughout each class we will discuss possible scientific explanations, cultural beliefs that could lead to explanations, and sometimes explore the option that there may be supernatural causes. This class does not attempt to teach or convince students that these monsters are real, it is designed to have students creatively, and critically, think about stories that have been passed down from generation to generation. Week One - Could dragons have been real? Were they big lizards, strange birds, or perhaps even dinosaurs? Week Two - Vampires! Where does the idea of blood sucking monsters come from? Week Three - Are their half human-half fish hybrids? And if there are, are they magical or monsters from the deep? Week Four - Is there proof of giants? Both giant humans and giant forests? Was the world a lot bigger once? Week Five - Big Foot - Is there a very large, man like creature that stalks the forests of North America?

Parental Guidance
This class is not for all students. We will discuss mature content such as serial killers (when discussing the truth that may have led to vampires), deaths from certain creatures, and some themes may be scary for young or sensitive learners. I will never show any gore or inappropriate pictures, but many of these myths involve human deaths by these creatures or from the real life events they are based around.

Hello families! I’m Amanda and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach your learner! I love everything about education and feel consider being a teacher as part of who I am. It is my passion!
I have a bachelor's degree in elementary and special education, two active teaching licenses in Arizona and reading and ESL endorsements. I've been teaching since 2017 and I'm working towards a master's in child and adolescent development.
My goal as your learner’s teacher is to inspire them to be lifelong learners. Learning is scary and requires a lot of vulnerability to take chances knowing you could make a mistake. I pride myself on helping students feel safe, confident, and secure in themselves. I’ve always seen tremendous growth in students when they are in an environment that allows for them to safely make mistakes and learn from them.
I’m looking forward to meeting your learner and joining them in their educational journey!
