In this 3-day summer camp, students will learn about the mythological and historical references and allusions in The Hunger Games series.
Class experience
Students will be taught about the mythological & historical characters and events that influenced The Hunger Games series. We will cover the following: Class Meeting 1: Katniss (Theseus, Atalanta, Artemis) Class Meeting 2: Character/Place Names & Traits (Panem, Caesar, Cinna, Seneca, Castor & Pollux, Brutus, Cato, Flavius, Portia, Coriolanus, & Titus) Class Meeting 3: The Capitol & the Districts; The Games (Ancient Rome, The Colosseum, Gladiators) I will begin the instructional segment of...
Students will learn to identify, describe, and explain the mythological and historical references and allusions in The Hunger Games Series.
I already teach two classes about Philosophy in The Hunger Games. I am a certified teacher with seven years' public school teaching experience and also a homeschool educator of sixteen years. I have taught literature & mythology classes at a local homeschool co-op. I have led multiple workshops on literature and mythology.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Due to the nature of The Hunger Games series and the related historical & mythological references, there will be discussions of violence and brutality.
